Where do i start?,This sountrack album is so intertwined with the movie in my mind,i almost feel like i hear it in black and white,'biff gets stomped by rusty james' is worth the price of admission alone, for the musical skill to evoke the mood of a gang rumbl with drums & a couple of horns, the whole work is stunning in it's use of sparse instumentation, stewarts' guitar & piano playing are quite unique & add to the originality of the work as a whole, meaning it's not just for drummers, there's interesting original music here.'party at someone else's place' is a klark kent song called 'excesses' reconstituted as an instumental to nice effect.'hostile bridge to benny's' features the awesome "typewriters morphing into drums effect" that i always found exhilerating, klark kent is Stewart's 1980 project wherin he played all instuments & sang, chech it out,tje 'rumble fish' soundtrack features only one track with vocals by special guest Stan Ridgeway of Wall of Voodoo, one of tje best soundrack albums ever!

This CD was mastered in 1983, which is very long ago in the development of CD mastering technology. I was surprised how good it sounded. I noticed no noise and the dynamic range was excellent on my Professional Audio system.
Stewart Copeland's soundtrack for "Rumble Fish" is creative, lively and refreshing.
I ordered the Stewart Copeland Anthology after listening to this CD. It is a much more recently mastered CD.
I am not particularly a fan of The Police. Some of Stewart Copeland's other solo albums are live performances and draw much more heavily on African rhythms. I prefer his unique film soundtrack work, at least at this time. The music grows on you, so I may check them out later.
I also own the "Equalizer and Other Cliff Hangers" CD. I like the "Rumble Fish" soundtrack more and feel it really enhanced the film's atmosphere and helped tell the story.

Stewart Copeland is amazing! One of the best one man show musical accomplishments in cinema soundtrack history! This soundtrack is the perfect companion to the Francis Ford Coppola film noir conversion of the S.E. Hinton novel, Rumble Fish. I have been looking for this soundtrack on CD for decades. I had it on cassette, but wanted to upgrade for obvious reasons. It has been out of print forever and everything on the bay was grossly overpriced. Thank you Amazon for making this available. Also, if you like Wall of Voodoo, then you'll love the only single on the disc that features Stan Ridgway.

The intense film of sibling rivalry and filial love/admiration RUMBLEFISH, broke a lot of barriers...like Young Frankenstein by Mel Brooks almost ten years earlier, it was filmed in Black and White.
The sites in use in and around TULSA, OKLAHOMA were both refreshing-stylized urban, and significantly vintage enough to make it a "timeless" storyline.
Great Performances by a little known or has been cast has made this a cult favorite, as virtually EVERY lead is now a major star [Nicholas Cage, Mickey Rourke, Matt Dillon, Diane Lane, Dianna Scarwid, etc.]
The soundtrack is both driving and comfortable, and intrestingly 'timeless.' Using taped-looped 'samples' of sounds to certain rhythms.
Oddly the music on this album would make a great solo album for Stewart Copeland (versus his disatrous KLARK KENT EP, A&M Records) the music is pretty intense on this soundtrack, as far as background listening, and may nopw be your goto choice for such. But, the infectious beats are great for those hours on the treadmill, etc.
As you watch the film, the soundtrack doesn't 'intrude' [unless you are familiar with this album already,] to a point you are taken out of the film, and feel the music is overwhelming the scene. [as in Born Free, Top Gun, etc.]
When Stanard Ridgeway of WALL OF VOODOO sings DON"T BOX ME IN, he is singing of our own longing to 'have our space,' sas well as the film brothers (Rourke/Dillon,) and even the BETA or RUMBLEFISH [aka Siamese fighting fish] in the pet store.

I originally saw this movie as a teen. I loved the unusual cinematography and the music right away. The marimba used in some of the songs hooked me right away. I owned this soundtrack for years on cassette. Now I've updated to this cd. I love this music as much today as when I was a teen.

Stewart Copeland breaks down the barrier between percussion and melody! He blends the piano, typewriter bells, ticking clocks, billiard balls being broken, and even a pile-driver. The overall feel for the album is Time. The music gives expression to the film with the sense of time running out/time winding down. Some of the tracks have faint and subtle ticking clocks underneath the percussion line. Stewart Copeland sets the precedence with this materpiece. This with without a doubt my favorite soundtrack behind his Wall Street Soundtrack.

Having purchased the cassette version many years ago, I never seemed able to source the CD version.

I love this CD. Having enjoyed the film, this CD forms one of my staple diet while in the car.

Copelands finest work. Annoys the heck out of the wife and kiods, nonetheless, doesn't stop me playing it OVER AND OVER again.

    Thanks.
